Visual Gifts To Enhance the Development of The 4 - 6 Month-Old Child

Hands fascinate your child during this age. Several visual gifts enhance this sense as he progresses from just peering at his own hand to intently examining an object he holds in it. One is an Oball Rattle. Easily grasped, he inspects it closely.

The rattle that his fingers curled around when he was a new born? He'll really investigate it now. The Wiggly Giggler Rattle will enthrall a little one as he reacts to the feel, sound and color of it.

Toys with softly flashing lights always capture a child's attention, and by the time she is six months old, she may even reach for it...or any other toy that she spies.

His eyes follow your movements more purposefully now, and usually he'll turn his head as well. He tracks movement in all directions and in a circle.

Watch her look from one object to another...that's an important pre-reading skill...that same skill you use when your eyes move from one word to the next.

How can you encourage this skill?

Hold two objects with bold colors, lights, or sound in her line of sight and about 6 inches apart. She’ll look from one to the other if you'll shake first one and then the other. You will see this skill emerge.

What visual gifts could you suggest for Grandparents and other relatives? Board Books with simple pictures and bold lines and colors captivate children…books like Byron Barton's My Car.

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown is another excellent choice. Find books with just a few words on the page.
Choosing toys with bold colors...red and yellow still tend to be the most captivating...remain good choices for toy selection. Toys with sound and lights also draw visual attention.

Time is flying...as he approaches that first year milestone. Ready to learn how he sees now and what gifts are best as he reaches the 7 - 12 month milestone...
