So encourage her to begin telling the stories in her own words. You can also discuss what’s real and what’s make believe, and that’s important. So what are some you could select? Play Sets…Bob the Builder, Home Living, Playground, Farm, Jungle, GI Joes, Legos and other construction games, to name a few. They’ll add their imagination and sound affects. A puppet theater enchants and encourages imagination. Engage your child by playing with her.
DVDs…add Veggie Tales, such as this, to the collection.
TV…All right, I know she’s been watching TV since birth. But now you really need to be discerning and careful about the shows…not that you weren’t earlier, but it’s more critical now. She has greater understanding of the storyline, if not all of the nuances. This preschool language learning has been quite an adventure for me. Maybe it has been for you, too. I hope you’ve learned as much as I have. It has taught me how very important hearing is to the whole process. I’ve also learned that this skill is not as simple as it appears at first blush.
