What Are Child Enriching Gifts?

Gifts that not only teach…but entertain. You found us because you want to make sure that the ones you choose will do exactly that.

This site approaches that selection decision from a different angle than most others do. We look at a particular aspect of the child’s development as well as age. Within each age, we address the toys, gift, and activities that enhance that part of the child’s sensory motor development.

Because the first five years of a child’s life are the most critical, we limit our scope to the preschool years.

We begin with Newborn. Newborn means those babies from birth to 3 months of age. We will examine the sensory motor developmental milestones during these first few, but critical months of life.

Next in development is the Infant; that child between 4 and 12 months of age.

Before you know it, that infant is a Toddler. Toddlerhood encompasses children between 1 and 3 years of age.

Time flies and your Toddler is in the Preschool age of 4 and 5. School is just around the corner.

Providing a sensory-rich environment is important at all stages of your child’s development…Why? It is through the senses that they gain most of their information. This aids their cognitive, or mental, growth as well.

So…we will consider

Vision, including visual development and discrimination

Hearing, including speech and language

Touch, including textures and temperatures. Since touch does not lend itself well to age categorization, we’ve included it under Newborn.

Yes, there are two other senses, but we’ll address smell and taste through activities.

We’ll address two other important areas of growth

Gross motor

Fine motor

While our discussion centers on each of these senses and motor skills, your child does not use these in isolation to learn about his environment. So integrate as many of these as possible when making your selection.

Safety concerns you. We’ll give you important information and web sites to locate recalls and warnings.

Research The Gifts…

Do you make them yourself? I’ll give you some tips, strategies…even patterns.

Search the web? Wonderful sites exist. We’ve done the searching for you.

However, this is an information site…not a toy store. I do give you examples of types of toys that I believe will enrich a particular aspect of your child’s sensory motor development. Links to sites that sell recommended products are provided. Should you purchase a gift accessed through a link on this site, I may receive a small commission.

I continue to add new information to this site. Bookmark this site and check back often to see the latest updates.
